Kids Sending Smiles Car Wash This Weekend
Posted on May 2nd, 2012

We will be having a car wash.  The car wash will be on May 5, dumpster day from 12:30-3 in the Landsdowne pool parking lot.  We are still collecting for the Albergue, an orphanage in Chota, Peru.

The Albergue was started in 2003 by the municipality of Chota, a small city in the northern Andes Mountains. There are 10 children that live at the Albergue. Children come to the Albergue either because they have been abandoned by their families or their families can no longer care for them.

U.S. Peace Corps volunteers in the Chota area started helping at the Albergue about a year ago. Recently they have been able to get closets built in every bedroom so the children have an area to put their clothing and personal belongings. Before their installation, everything was kept in brown boxes on the floor. Money was also raised to purchase a new gas stove and blender to make fresh juice.  Some pictures of the shelter are attached.

Kids Sending Smiles is working with Peace Corps volunteers to raise money to build a new kitchen. When the kitchen is built, it will free up another room so the shelter can house two more children. The entire cost of the project is estimated to be about $3700.  After our recent bake sale, we collected a little over $500.  We hope you will come get your car washed on Saturday.  All of the money collected will go to the orphanage.
