Neighbors Helping Neighbors -- A Personal Thank You from Andrew Forte
Posted on Mar 31st, 2010
On the afternoon of March 17, 2010, I saw first-hand how great it is when neighbors help each other. I came home that afternoon from work, after picking up my daughter, with severe stomach and abdominal pains. My daughter saw I was in intense pain, so she ran next door and got our neighbor (who is a nurse) to come over and take a look at me. My neighbor saw I was in severe pain so she provided a much needed voice of comfort and reassurance, and she had my daughter to call 911.
The paramedics were there in less than 5 minutes to rush me to the Inova Fairfax Hospital emergency room. Other neighbors looked after and comforted my daughter until my wife could make the commute home from D.C. I was diagnosed with inflamed pancreas and gastritis. The pain I experienced, on a scale from 1 to 10, was 11 so I could not coordinate or direct anything to be done. That was not the St. Patrick's Day celebration that I envisioned.
What happened to me can happen to anyone, so we all benefit when we are "neighbors helping neighbors." I extend my thanks to all who helped (Wahida, John, Ann, Papa John, Michael, Michaelyn), and all that were concerned about me during that difficult time-for that I am truly grateful. --- by Andrew Forte
