Recreation

Landsdowne has many recreation areas.  For specific questions or to provide comments, please us contact us

Thank You!

Basketball Court.  Do you love shooting hoops?  Join fellow players on our court, located off the walking path on the west side behind Morning Ride Circle.  Courts are open from dawn to dusk every day.

Community Benches and Walking Path.  A 1/2 mile walking path runs the length of Landsdowne through the common area.  Enjoy taking a stroll with fellow residents or with you dogs.  Part of the path adjoins a wooded area.  We often see while tail deer and birds of many different species.  Bluebird houses will be added later this fall.  If you simply wish to "get away" and enjoy being outdoors, please also take time to stop and relax on our many beautiful seating areas located strategically throughout Landsdowne.  And if you want to spend time walking with others, why not start a walking group?

Swimming Pool.  Our community pool is located at 8000 Morning View Lane.  The season runs from Memorial Day through the weekend after Labor Day.  Our pool is a competition length 25 meter pool with 5 swimming lanes and shallow and deeper areas for child play.  We also have a full wading pool for the kids among us.  Our pool is managed by Winkler Pool Company.  Hours are 4pm to 9 pm during the school year and 11 am to 9 pm weekends and when school is out for the summer.

The Pool Committee works as the community liaison with the Landsdowne Board and Winkler Management.  Pool pass distribution is run through this committee.  A copy of the 2010 Pool Pass Application is available on line. They also schedule water aerobics, swimming lessons and other water related activities.  For additional information, please use the Pool link on the Contact Us page.

Swimming Lessons -- 2010

Swimming lessons will be offered again this summer at the Landsdowne Pool. We are very fortunate to have Lorena Gimenez as our swimming (and water aerobics) instructor again this summer. This will be the second year Lorena has taught swimming at the Landsdowne Pool..

Private or group lessons will be available for children and adults. For the cost and schedule please contact Lorena directly by email to lorgimenez@gmail.com  or by phone at 703-963-6732.

Pool Patio and Grill Usage

The pool patio area exists for the enjoyment of all Landsdowne residents whether for enjoying a picnic, ice cream or other snack while at the pool or for hosting an event for your family. When making reservations for a party, you may check the Calendar section of our website.  Previously reserved times will be noted there.  Before making reservations, we ask that you review a few simple rules:
  • Patio reservations are for the use of Landsdowne residents only.
  • There is no charge to reserve the patio space for party use.
  • Reservations are honored on a first-come first-serve basis
  • Community-sponsored events will take precedence over any private party.
  • Reservations for use are taken in 2 ½ hour increments 30 minutes to set up; 30 minutes to clean up and 2 hours for each party. The Landsdowne Pool Committee or Landsdowne Board of Directors may consider extending reservation times on a case-by-case basis.
  • Parties may not exceed 30 guests (including all children and adults in attendance)
  • For small parties the patio area may be shared with more than one group.
  • At no time, even with a party reservation, may any Landsdowne pool visitor be denied use of the patio.

For use of the pool one adult must accompany no more than 2 children under age 5 in the baby pool and one adult must accompany no more than 4 children ages 6 to 11 in the adult pool.
  • Use of the pool by non-Landsdowne residents while attending a party is at the discretion of the lifeguard staff on duty, the Landsdowne Pool Committee or any Landsdowne Board member.
  • Reservations are limited to one pool party per season per family to allow for use by the greatest number of Landsdowne residents. Special exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Use of the grill requires a $25 cash use fee. The party reserving it must clean at the end of each use. All grilling tools will be supplied by the individual party making the reservations.
