Your Dog Could Save Lives As A Canine Blood Donor!

Since 1993, the Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank (EVBB) has been saving dogs lives across the country. Both you and your dog could benefit from becoming a lifesaver!
 
Requirements:
  • Dogs must weigh at least 35 pounds.
  • Dogs must be between the ages of 9 months and 7 ½ years.
  • Dogs must be maintained on heartworm preventative and be current on their regular veterinarian’s preventative health and vaccination schedule.
  • Dogs must have had no prior serious disease or take any long-term medications. (There are a few exceptions.)
  • Owners must make a commitment to donate 5 to 7 times over the course of a year. (Dogs can safely donate as often as every 3 weeks.)
  • Donors must be brought to a donation facility for scheduled appointments. (Olde Towne Pet Resort on Alban Rd. is closest to Landsdowne.)
Benefits for Donors in Good Standing:
  • Canine Blood Typing
  • Blood Chemistry Profile and Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Heartworm test
  • Ehrlichia, Hemobartonella, and Babesia testing
  • Brucella testing (once for neutered/spayed dogs and yearly for intact dogs
After meeting yearly requirements:
  • The donor is eligible to receive one unit of blood or plasma for each unit of blood donated should illness or injury ever require its use.
  • EVBB tag to identify your dog as a blood donor that is traceable through EVBB.
  • An EVBB bandana identifying donor as a lifesaver.
