FUN "4" KIDS

LOCKER POCKETS.  These simple magnetic foam envelopes are great for storing assorted school supplies and CDs.

CRAFT MATERIALS:

  • Craft Foam
  • Craft scissors or pinking shears
  • Packing Tape
  • Craft Glue
  • Small craft foam flowers and geometric shapes (sold in craft stores)
  • brass paper fastener
  • 2 strong magnets

Time needed: Under 1 hour

1. Cut a 9-inch square from the craft foam, using craft scissors or pinking shears to create a decorative edge.

step2 2. Place the square on a flat surface and fold 2 opposite corners to the center, as shown. Fold up the lower corner so the edges slightly overlap the side flaps. While pinching the 3 folded flaps together with one hand, secure them from the inside of the pocket with packing tape.

3. Apply glue between the overlapped edges and place a heavy book on top of the envelope to keep them flat while they're drying.

step4 4. When the glue is dry, attach decorative foam shapes to the front of the envelope with a brass fastener.

step5 5. Glue the magnets to the back of the envelope, one at the top and one at the bottom, and let the glue dry completely before packing the pouch.

HANDY PLACEHOLDERS. Forgot what you read last? Pick up right where you left off with this handy placeholder.

CRAFT MATERIALS:

  • Craft Foam
  • Scissors
  • Glitter Glue

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. Trace around your child's hand onto a piece of craft foam and cut out the shape. Use colorful glitter glues to polish the nails and paint on jewelry.
IT'S A STRETCH NOTEBOOK. This notebook is great to keep paper in and school supplies on the binder.

CRAFT MATERIALS:

  • Thin, braided-elastic headbands
  • Three-ring binder
  • Writing utensils

Time needed: 30 Minutes or less

1. Crisscross a dozen or so thin, braided-elastic headbands around the front cover of a three-ring binder, and your child can tuck writing utensils and reminder notes under them, as shown.
SANDWICH ON A STICK. How do you turn a sandwich into a fun snack? Make it a stick-wich!

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

  • Bread
  • Cheese
  • Lunch Meat
  • Grape Tomatoes
  • Lettuce
  • Pickles
  • Olive

1. Cut up cubes of bread, cheese, and lunch meat (we ordered 1/2-inch-thick slices of ham and turkey at the deli counter).

2. Slide the cubes onto a skewer with other foods your child likes, such as a grape tomato, a piece of lettuce, a pickle, or an olive.

3. Set out a side of mayo or mustard for dippin.

COLORFUL NOTEBOOK COVER-UP. Here's a fun and fuzzy way to dress up your plain notebook.

CRAFT MATERIALS:

  • Spiral-bound notebook
  • Tacky glue
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Colored paper

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. Spruce up a plain spiralbound notebook with bold stripes by using tacky glue to stick pipe cleaners (the extrawide, fuzzy type work especially well) onto the cover.

step2 2. Fold the pipe cleaner ends against the top and bottom edges of the inner cover, then conceal them with a glued-on sheet of colored paper.
